Stands such as this are frequent around Nara Park. Here you can buy the rice wafers called senbei to feed to the deer.

This little guy was clearly a bit confused. Also, this shot was taken in sweltering 32C plus heat of August* so the water in the drainage ditch most likely was a relief from the hot walking paths.
*I know, I’ve a bit behind… but who doesn’t like a nice reminder of summer during the cold of winter eh?.
