Fukuoka Shrine and Temple: 宮地嶽神社 & 鎮国寺 (Photo and Video)
Forgive me internet for I been quite the delinquent blogger of late. With contract renewal season now mostly over I can hopefully continue to post every Monday as I enjoy the process of reflection and the creative outlet that blogging allows.
宮地嶽神社 (Miyajidake Shrine)
The more I encounter authentic traditional Japan the more fascinating it becomes.
This shrine and temple we visited in Fukuoka prefecture were incredible. Miyajidake Shrine has the largest shimenawa (straw rope) in Japan as well as the largest taiko drum (traditional Japanese drum used in festivals, ceremonies and such).
鎮国寺 (Chingoku Temple)
The temple we visited afterward, Chingoku Temple, was equally stunning with it’s early blooming cherry blossoms, called sakura. At first I suspected them to be plum flowers, ume no hana, because sakura usually don’t come out until early summer. However, these blossoms are a special variety of sakura that bloom in mid February. Lucky us.
