At the famed Golden Pavillion in Kyoto on New Years Eve

At the famed Golden Pavillion in Kyoto on New Years Eve

One day, scrawny seventh grade Andy said to himself while watching his favorite television show, “Man, Dragonball Z is the bomb! I want to learn more about the culture from which it came!!1! I wonder if mushroom hair cuts are still in because I have one!” From that point on I have been fixated with Nippon. In 2006 my dreams were realized when I was able to travel to Japan by myself as a 19 year old. The experience was better than anticipated.

Now having, finished college with a degree in Photography and Graphic Design (my portfolio site can be viewed here) I am back in the Land of the Rising Sun once more.

This time is different, however. Having found a job teach English in two public high schools in Kitakyushu, a city in the southern most of Japan’s four main islands, I have successfully jumped through the hoops to land a 1 year visa. I have a very small apartment and little money, but life is very good right now. I plan to continue to blog and post videos about my experiences in the great country of Japan.

Stay tuned and enjoy my posts.

I have never been an alcoholic but had family that was. i learned by them the most affective was cold turkey but it wasn’t the easiest and you will need family and friends there to support you. my aunt took some meds and got really sick and went through depression it only took her about 2 month for her not to drink but it didn’t last long she started drinking a few months later. so she quit and did it cold turkey like my grandpa told her to it took a while and some fights but she has been clean for like 8 years now. she cleaned up for her son. my grandpa has been clean for 30 years we just had a family bbq for him. i wish you the best of luck

I’ve been on naltrexone for 9 days and am stunned by how well it works. i have no obsessive compulsive desire to act out sexually. i’ve been a sex addict for most of my adult life. i’ve been to treatment and diagnosed with hypersexual disorder and continue to go to sa. side affects have been minimal, a little spacey and tired but seems to be diminishing. this drug really works for me.

    Interesting bio…mine is similar.
Same thoughts as a child, also watching anime.
And I too first visited japan when I was 19.
I also went back there a few more times.

Now I married a Japanese woman.
So visiting there is no problem.
Most likely I will move there permanently.
    Still working on my ???…

Sir, you are awesomtastic. Let’s be BFF’s forever and ever. I insist. >:3 <3

But on a serious note, I came across your site last night and just found it amazing. I’ve been to Japan last October after having fangirl spazms for the country since years. And that trip certainly made me decide that one day, I want to stay longer there. You have pretty cool tips on how to achieve such, and for that, I kanpai. Pity I’m stuck in Germany right now, but after I complete my graphic art degree, I hope I can take a trip back to my chosen homeland. Ignore the fact I’m German. By heart, I am Japanese. Yes, yes indeed.

    u_u You have my soul.

I have been doing research about teaching in Japan and came across your website. As a current junior at a university in America, could you give any advice (other than what I have gotten from your videos) about how to prepare myself? I plan to graduate with a BA in English in 2011 with another BA in religious studies or philosophy (will this impact anything?), and to get a MA in teaching in 2012.I have been looking into the JET program and US military bases that hire teachers so far. Thanks for what you’re doing here online, it’s very helpful. Oh yeah, I run track as well (5k), 1:54 in the 800 is nice!
