Mt. Sarakura Ghibli Tree

July 13th, 2010

This grand and curious tree seemed like it was taken directly from one of the enchanting forests from a Studio Ghibli film. The trail wrapped around it, and it was captivating to take in.

For those unfamiliar, Studio Ghibli is a revered Japanese animation company responsible for such reknown pictures as Princess Monoke, Castle in the Sky, and Oscar Award winning Spirited Away to name a few. They are beautifully made, completely inspiring, and family friendly. In 2006 I was fortunate enough to see Tales of Earthsea on opening weekend in Tokyo. This coming July 17th sees the premiere of The Borrower Arrietty . Sadly, I will be in Singapore from July 16th to the 26th and will have to wait to catch a showing until my return.
If you have never seen an Ghibli film, I suggest you do so promptly. A vote Spirited Away to be a good starter.
